Phil Perry and Brian McKnight will headline a free beachside concert this May hosted by the Annual Riviera Maya Jazz Festival.
The concert is scheduled for Saturday evening, May 29 at Mamitas Beach Club in Playa del Carmen.
Organized as a precursor to the November Jazz Festival, organizers hope the summer concert will enhance the tourists’ experience in the Riviera Maya.
“Music is an integral part of a vacation experience; there’s nothing like sitting on a beach listening to great music under the stars,” states Javier Aranda, general director of the Rivera Maya Destination Marketing Office.
The Riviera Maya Jazz Festival drew 50,000 visitors to the popular Mexican tourist destination last year with jazz artists Herbie Hancock, Spyro Gyra, Al Jarreau, Sergio Mendes, and many local jazz musicians. In its eighth season this year, the 4-day festival is scheduled for November 25-28.

Riviera Maya Jazz Fest 2009 | The last night
The Riviera Maya Jazz Festival 2009 came to an end on Saturday. After four days of great music, one of the most traditional and favored festivals ended on a high note with three renowned Jazz, R&B, and Bossa artists. Pat Martino, Al Jarreau, and Herbie Hancock dazzled more than 12 thousand attendees under the starry skies of Playa del Carmen.
Visitors from all over Mexico and beyond patiently enjoyed the night sitting down (some clever ones brought their own chairs), while others just stood and danced to the rhythm of the music. Pat Martino opened the show playing his guitar with unparalleled grace; nothing besides a few drum beats and piano notes accompanied him to start the jazz festival. Later the Grammy award winner, Al Jarreau, appeared on stage to perform with his spectacular voice — a great set for everyone. Full of enthusiasm and energy, Jarreau delighted the crowd for one hour.
The world-renowned Herbie Hancock closed the festival. For the first time in Mexico, the jazz master shared some of the best music from his more than 30-year musical career with an excited audience. It was definitely a night to remember.

After a long wait and some changes to the program, the second part of the Riviera Maya Jazz Festival 2009 is only one week away. The first part (and a tasty preview of the fest) was on June 13th when the Canadian R&B/Jazz musician, Gino Vannelli, performed for hundreds of lucky attendees.
From November 25th through the 28th, a group of renowned jazz bands will offer free concerts under the starry skies of Mamitas Beach Club in Playa del Carmen. With such an amazing natural stage, the performers displayed their excitement at being able to share their music with locals and visitors from all over the world in such a beautiful setting.

3rd Cancun Riviera Maya International Film Festival 2009
Under the statement “ecology of the souls” as a metaphor for the sustainable collaboration of towns, cultures and ethnic groups, the festival is a celebration of diversity: a cultural idea born in Mexico, with international projection.
For the third time, our destination will receive next month (Nov. 9-15) the most talented filmmakers from different countries to show their first original work to an international panel of judges & experts; nine official prizes and several complimentary ones will be given away.
The main objectives of the festival, according to the organizing committee are to promote contemporary film-making, to foster cultural and artistic activities and to support ecology-oriented actions. The Mayan civilization and the extraordinary natural beauties of the region are two of the most important and attractive ingredients for this event.
The Eco-friendly & Endless Luxury Hacienda Tres Ríos Resort in the heart of the Riviera Maya is a partner of the Cancun Riviera Maya International Film Festival.
