Celebrity Golf Invitational Cancun 2009 in Review
The golf tournament ended in complete success last weekend. Sponsored proudly by Yucatan Holidays, the event welcomed great athletes and Hollywood actors to show their best golfing skills on one of Greg Norman’s most impressive golf courses at Playa Mujeres near Cancun.
Out of 25 total teams, Darryl Talley, former linebacker of the Buffalo Bills, and his team won the tournament — with a score of 62, 10 under, after 18 holes — full of great excitement and marvelous shots. Rick Barry’s team won second place, showing off the great golfing abilities of this NBA legend. Third place went to former star pitcher of the Toronto Blue Jays, Jesse Litch, and his team.
Even with some wind and mild showers, the Celebrity Golf Invitational was still a success. This event featured Cancun as one of the most important golf destinations in Mexico, and the players confirmed this. Talley, champion of the event, said, “It is a pleasure to be here in this beautiful place in Mexico.”
Renowned Hollywood actor, Chris Tucker (of the Rush Hour movie saga), was one of the most enthusiastic of the celebrities, although he didn’t finish in the lead. He said, “It is great to hang around with all these great stars and entertainers, as well with all these lovely Mexican friends. Cancun is simply spectacular, and the event has been a success.”
After the tournament, celebrities enjoyed a night filled with luxury at Hacienda Tres Ríos Resort with a gourmet dinner and silent auction to raise funds for local and international charities such as Teleton, Children International, and Kanché.
