1. Cancun (of course)
Cancun is a world class vacation destination due to its delicious all you can eat and drink buffets, constant parties, unparalleled beach, girls in bikinis and the warm Caribbean sun, with a lot of Mexican and Mayan culture mixed in. Cancun has something for everyone; families, friends or couples, and is a great choice anytime of the year.
Tip: Plan and book early for the lowest rates.
Holbox, which means "black hole" in Maya, is a genuine tropical paradise. This small, charming, laid back island offers unique gastronomy, adventure and natural beauty. To get there, make your way to the port of Chiquilá and then take a boat to the island.
Tip: Visit Holbox during Whale Shark season, which begins in May, and swim with the biggest fish in the ocean.
One of the most beautiful cities in Mexico, Mérida is a great place for history buffs, who will enjoy walking the downtown streets, spotting landmarks or taking a buggy ride down Paseo de Montejo. Take the turibus and visit the colonies and famous restaurants like La Colonia Garcia Ginerés or Los Almendros. Merida is a large city and features many attractions: markets, theaters, parks, zoos, shopping malls, museums and art galleries.
Tip: Take 2 days to visit "La Blanca" Merida, which is a 3 hour drive from Cancun.
Cozumel island is located about fifty kilometers from Cancun. Just hop a ferry from Playa del Carmen. This is an "all in one"destination because of its archaeological sites, parks, ecotourism, food, unique shops, entertainment and adventure. Aka Cuzamil or La Isla de las Golondrinas (named in honor of the Mayan goddess Ixchel) the island is recognized as a world class scuba diving destination.
Tip: Want to visit the marine park? Best dive sites: north and south Paradise Reef, Chankanaab Natural Park and Torments reef.
